Join us to read Dickens’s Our Mutual Friend in its original monthly instalments from May 2014 to November 2015, to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the novel’s original serialised publication (1864-1865). We are reading digitised versions of the original monthly parts and then commenting on them, month-by-month, on this blog. We welcome any and all comments, from academics, specialists, enthusiasts or anybody who has read something they enjoyed in Our Mutual Friend and wants to share their thoughts with us.
You can also join in with our Twitter re-telling of Our Mutual Friend. Dozens of our bloggers are tweeting as characters in the novel, following the monthly novel but occasionally taking their own Dickensian flights of fancy. If you’re on Twitter, you can bookmark ‘Our Mutual Feed’ to keep up with the story day-to-day. You can also view the collected tweets on Storify.
This project kicks off the celebrations and a year of digital projects to mark the 10th anniversary, in late 2015, of 19: Interdisciplinary Studies in the Long Nineteenth Century. 19 is an open-access, scholarly, refereed web journal dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary study in the long nineteenth century, based at Birkbeck, University of London.
